Viennese waltzes popular requests at waltz balls and gala events. This choreography, set to the Blue Danube waltz, is the shortened version of a longer grand waltz created for the Peninsula Symphony’s “Viennese Nights” concert in 2010.

The Lulu Waltz
The Lulu Waltz is a short, theatrical piece utilizing figures popular in nineteenth century quadrilles. While the dancers in this video perform in mid-nineteenth century costuming, the music, composed by Sibelius, was completed in 1889. For this reason, this piece is sometimes performed in complementary 1890s costuming.
The introduction of the waltz in the early 19th century was deemed scandelous due to its innovative and intimate closed embrace. This piece, set to the Duke of Kent waltz, begins with a classic Regency longways set, before transforming into the partnered waltz that would ultimately transform the ballrooms of Europe.
